Survival Swimming
Survival swimming refers to techniques you learn in order to save your life in case of emergencies in the water.
The primary goal of survival swimming is to ensure safety.
It was introduced into grade school education in 2015 and became a mandatory subject for all students in 2020.
Typically, first and second graders receive theory-based lessons, while third to sixth graders take practical lessons from professional instructors at swimming pools.
Students learn how to become comfortable in water, stay afloat for extended periods, and perform basic lifesaving techniques.
Children who learn survival swimming are said to be less likely to panic in emergencies and can respond appropriately.
There have even been real-life cases reported in the news where students survived water accidents by doing what they had learned at school.
